Home Robert Frost said, Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to let you in. Home is where the heart is, where the memories are. Home is the place there's no place like. Home is the beginning of everything else. Home is where you can always be yourself. (compliments sharonfwarner.com) Our MissionThe Goal of Good Shepherd Tower and their staff is to provide safe family oriented independent living for our tenants. Good Shepherd Tower and our staff know that independent senior life can be very rewarding but may require understanding and some family support to maintain the most comfortable living arrangement. Our FacilityWe are a senior home facility on the south side of Chicago. We provide a clean and safe environment for all of our tenents. Good Shepherd Tower is a seven story 60 unit complex comprised of 48 (1) bedroom apartments and 12 (studio) apartments, designed and constructed for the elderly and the elderly with disabilities. The BeginningThe construction was established in conjunction with the Section 202 program (Section 8) Housing Assistance Program secured through the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) pursuant to the Housing Act of 1959 as amended. The Good Shepherd Tower project received HUD approval through the diligent efforts of Mr. Otho Robinson who at the time was the head of Administration and Personnel with the Chicago Board of Education, also Senator Charles Percy was instrumental in the final approval of our HUD construction grant. Attending the groundbreaking with our many supporters and Notable Chicagoans was the Honorable Harold Washington and Representative Charles Hayes and our own the reverend Dr. Kenneth B. Smith then Pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd Congregation United Church of Christ. The Amistad Group along with Architect Vernon Williams rendered the architectural design. The construction began in 1938 by the C.F. Moore Construction Company and was completed in August of 1984. The Tower is prominently located on the south side of Chicago at 55 East Garfield Boulevard in the 20th Ward and 31st Precinct, 60637. TodayThe Good Shepherd Tower affectionately known as the "Tower" is home to many elderly residents coming from many walks of life, bringing with them a vast wealth of life experiences and a rich heritage that is shared during the various organized activities and informally during daily activities. The sharing and extended family enrich our lives. Contact Information
